Wishing Stones has a wonderful lending library with over 4000 books, movies and magazines for all ages. Most of the library content came from donations made by islanders and island visitors. This library is the result of an amazing community effort and the positive response and support the library continuously gets has made it a huge success.
Donations are always welcome and all duplicate books go into the “Swap Box” ~ if you find a book here that you’d like to keep, simply bring another book with you on your next visit to donate in exchange.
As well as having its own lending library, Wishing Stones also offers a rotating selection of books and videos from the South Shore Public Library system. Because of this, islanders do not have to leave the island to borrow or return public library books. If there’s a specific library book that someone wishes to borrow, it can be ordered and shipped to the gallery.
Every third Wednesday the Book Mobile comes to Chester and this is ‘rotation day’, the day that the gallery exchanges the current selection of books for a new batch. The previous shipment is packed up and sent to Chester on the ferry and a couple of hours later a new selection is shipped back to the island on the ferry.
The public library usually sends an assortment of about 100 books containing something that will appeal to anyone who likes to read
Whether you are popping in to borrow a few books or movies, or are planning to sit and read for a couple of hours in the comfortable and peaceful atmosphere of the gallery and library, you’re sure to have an enjoyable visit.
